Cardboard Speaks
(Karton govorit)
Cardboard Speaks is a street-based text project that existed from 2018 to 2024.
The project consisted of phrases written with a black marker on pieces of cardboard and placed in an urban space. These were fragments of songs, quotes, short statements, emotional residues — texts without attribution, explanation, or context, meant to be encountered accidentally.

Cardboard was chosen deliberately: a fragile, temporary material that does not imply preservation. The texts could disappear within minutes or last for days — torn down, soaked by rain, carried away. The project existed within a logic of impermanence and refusal of control.

Cardboard Speaks did not aim to create dialogue in a conventional sense, but rather presence — a brief moment of recognition, when a phrase unexpectedly coincides with the inner state of a passerby. A feeling that the city speaks in your words, just for a second.
The project was realized in multiple cities and contexts:
Kyiv
Odessa
Moscow
Vladivostok
Saint Petersburg
Yerevan
Gyumri

The project was closed in 2024.
